Dithmarschen, on Schleswig-Holstein´s west coast, is "surrounded" by water: to the west there´s the North Sea, to the south there´s the Kiel Canal (Nord-Ostsee-Kanal), to the east and north there´s the River Eider.
So, our British guests might have come by boat and bus via Harwich and Büsum (actually, there were serious talks about a ferry line Harwich-Büsum) - but, alas, they had to come up from Hamburg taking the bridge near the village of Grünental to cross the Kiel Canal
